Join us on a journey above and below the water to discover the special marine life that Fiordland has to offer.
In this most unique of environments, century old black coral colonies grow alongside vivid red hydrocorals in less than 20m of water. This is due to a layer of tannin-stained fresh water, which lies on top of the warmer salt water, filtering out much of the light. In the clear salt water, visibility is often over 10m.
Together with the Tawaki team, we take great pride in offering you a fantastic experience in Fiordland and hope that some of our passion for New Zealand, and Milford Sound in particular, will rub off on you for you to take home.

The Milford Deep Underwater Observatory nestles in Harrisons Cove, beneath Pembroke Glacier, amongst the towering mountains of Fiordland National Park. Here, visitors descend 10.4 metres, the equivalent of a four storied building, leading down beneath the sea. Once down in the viewing chamber, people are able to view, from within a metre, intimate and undisturbed life in a vibrant underwater community.
Courtship displays, territorial disputes, raising young and real life dramas unfold as nature's cycles come and go. Since opening many rare and unusual events have been recorded.

Your Te Anau Glowworm Cave adventure begins with a scenic cruise across Lake Te Anau to the western side of the lake. Upon arrival at Cavern House our friendly guides invite you to accompany them underground in small groups.
As you explore by path and small boat, your senses will be overwhelmed. Observe how the rushing water sculpts the rock formations, before gliding through silent darkness to the glowworm grotto. The delicate incandescence of thousands of tiny glowworms is a magical sight. Duration 2hrs 30mins.

Even if you have never been on a motorbike before, we will give you all the training you need. You will start off riding through flat and gently rolling paddocks to familiarise yourself with the bike. As you go, you will have the chance to experience sheep and deer farming close up.
From there, the tour winds through Te Anau's back country passing an historic musterers' hut. The climb to the summit of Danby Hill is a bit more challenging but as you reach the crest the view will take your breathe away.
A moment to rest and take a photo, you can see all the way from Lake Manapouri up Lake Te Anau and around to the Mavora Valley.
The trip back down will give you a chance to put into practice all you have learned, as well as have a play around. By this stage you will be buzzing from the exhilarating ride, so take a quiet ride back across the farm paddocks. Or perhaps a fast dash for those more racy riders.

When riding with High Ride Horse Treks, you get to see everything. With Red Deer on one side, sheep on the other, cattle mixed in and more farm animals on the way, you experience farming New Zealand style close up.
Winding through the trees gives a feeling of stillness and tranquility before walking down to the Whitestone River. Pristine and clear, this river is known far and wide, for its trout fishing. Walking the banks of the Whitestone, the scenery is a highlight along this stretch, with the backdrop of snowcapped mountains.

The company undertakes a wide variety of commercial and charter work and is part of the Southland Emergency Services Network. South - West Helicopters was formed in February 1996, following a staff buyout of an existing operation formed in Te Anau in 1966.
In 2002, Helipark was added giving the company exclusive flying rights onto the Hump-Ridge Track - New Zealand's newest walking Track on the South Western Coast.
We hold Department of Conservation concessions to land and operate within the Southern Conservancy and World Heritage Area, and approved trout fishing areas.
